And boy, is there a lot to learn. Not only is it likely that Dick Turpin himself stayed here in Little Ottle, the Museum itself used to be a stable, so his horse probably slept here in our Main Hall. It is also said that King Arthur passed through in days long-gone-by - we think he probably burned his cakes in our kitchen. There's always plenty to see and do here in the Museum, whoever you are and wherever you're from. Coach parties of Americans are particularly welcome - "Gee, we know how to show you guys a good time!" If you're aged between 4 and 10 come along to one of our "Children's Fun Afternoons" which take place every second Saturday of the month at 1pm. Run by Mrs. Grainger from the nearby Bridge Street Primary School, it's hard to imagine children having so much fun in any other environment. Don't worry children, it's not like being in school - the only uniforms you'll see are the authentic Battle Dress from the renowned 150th Field Regiment which date back to 1932. Regular Children's Fun Afternoon activities include re-enactments of Dick Turpin, Robin Hood and King Arthur. The staff of Little Ottle really know how to bring history alive! If you're a grown up, don't worry, you won't be left out of the fun. While your children re-live exciting adventures you can learn all about Little Ottle's local history including Farming Through The Ages, Linen Manufacture, Fossils, and How We Used To Live. We also play host to many Special Exhibitions - see our special events page for details. Another exciting happening here at Little Ottle are the Famous Battle Re-enactments which we host every six months on the nearby Parkside Common. Don't worry, you won't get hurt*. If you don't have your own costume we'll do our best to supply the authentic looking article. It's a great day out for all the family - whatever the weather. Email The Curator for more details of our great re-enactments. Following a request from Mrs. Blasswit of Berkshire, we've had our noses buried in the history books and we're proud to present a page featuring the real favourite recipes of some famous historical people - try them out today. In the meantime, a warm welcome to Little Ottle's home on the website - I hope you enjoy your time here. *Little Ottle Museum will not be held responsible for any injuries sustained during any Battle Re-enactments. |
